St Mary’s parish, Geelong, and the Geelong Deanery extend a warm welcome to all World Youth Day Pilgrims. The Basilica, one of only five in Australia, is an architecturally beautiful building that conveys a prayerful atmosphere and is remarked upon by its many visitors. Geelong is Victoria’s largest provincial city and is the gateway to the renowned Surf Coast and world-famous Great Ocean Road. It has claimed the title of ‘Australia’s Premier City’ since the local football team won the 2007 Australian Football League Premiership. Pilgrim visitors will find the 75-kilometre journey from Melbourne on an excellent road well worth the effort.
