Welcome to the parish church and National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Carmelites have been welcoming pilgrims since the first community was established on Mount Carmel in Palestine over 800 years ago. You are welcome here. It is with pleasure that the Carmelites and the people of the parish welcome you and encourage you to use this place as a place of prayer and reflection. The parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel here in Middle Park is a sister parish of St Joseph’s in Port Melbourne. The Port Melbourne community was established in 1882 and Our Lady of Mount Carmel was established in 1890. Both parish centres have served the people of these areas for many years and, in recent times, the Carmelites have continued the pastoral care of the people with these parishes. Our newly refurbished church is a place of light, warmth and peace. We hope you are able to come, rest awhile and nourish the contemplative dimension of your prayer life, in an open dialogue with God. Enjoy your time with us!
