With the celebration of the Festival of Ss Peter and Paul on Monday 29 June 2009, the Year of St Paul comes to a close. But, in the Church in Melbourne at least, we will not be saying “Goodbye” to St Paul. Indeed, we have only just been introduced!

In Saint Mark’s Gospel the Parable chapter is followed by a series of what we now call miracles, but are called in the first three Gospels ‘acts of power’ or ‘wonders’ and in St John’s Gospel ‘signs’.

POPE BENEDICT XVI RESPONDS TO IRISH REPORT WITH DISTRESS
Pope Benedict XVI is calling for a “deep examination” of the life of the Church in Ireland, according to the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, who, together with Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishop of Armagh, met the Pope on 5 June regarding last month’s report of the widespread abuse of children in Ireland’s Catholic schools.
The rejection of Jesus at Nazareth concludes the Galilean Ministry in St Mark’s Gospel. It also raises the question of who Jesus truly is, a question that St Mark implies is only answered in Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.
