Volume 19, Issue 10 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time “God would always protect them spiritually.” Reflection on the 1st reading (Jeremiah 20:10-13) Jeremiah was called by God in 626 BC to live dangerously as a prophetic person. Such people can be said, in a way, to foretell the future in the sense that they have a grace of seeing through current affairs. They can tell what will happen if nothing changes. |

The next few months give us all a chance to renew acquaintance with the key concepts of working Catholicism. |

If you believe in divine providence as I do, it is truly fascinating to observe it at work. While each of us enjoys the gift of free will, even taking that into account, God achieves his purposes, and I’ve seen that often in my life. What prompts these comments is a succession of recent occurrences that seem to me to go beyond mere coincidence. Let me give you some examples, which some might view as coincidental, whereas I see them as providential. |

Volume 19, Issue 7 I am a ‘Brothers’ Boy’. Yes, the major part of my education, especially at the secondary level, was in the hands of the Christian Brothers, and I want to tell you about it. Fortunately, I was raised by parents who genuinely appreciated those who taught me, and who went out of their way to show their gratitude to those responsible, even after I had long since left the classroom. |
